I wanted to speak to you today about the number one question I get asked all the time every time I speak to a new, potential client.
They hear me go on about how common Hashimoto’s is as a cause of hyperthyroidism and how well it responds to dietary/lifestyle changes.
They get excited about the journey, healing their thyroid, and feeling like their old selves.
But the one question I hear every time (and quite rightly so!) is:
How do I know if I have Hashimoto’s – is that the cause of my Hypothyroidism?
The sad truth is that in the UK we don’t routinely test for the cause of hypothyroidism. The doctors widely assume that as there is no known ‘cure’, there is no point in trying to find what caused it.
That thinking is fundamentally flawed.
According to research as well as evidence, the majority of underactive thyroid cases respond well to diet and lifestyle interventions.
HOWEVER.
I personally believe it is hugely important to know for sure what we are dealing with. Hashimoto’s is responsible for 80-90% of underactive thyroid cases, but not for all of them. And the nutritional strategy, the healing protocol, depends on the root cause.
So, what do I do to find out?
You test for thyroid antibodies! As simple as that. If the antibodies (anti-TPO and/or anti-Tg) are raised, it indicates an autoimmune process and a presence of autoimmune thyroid disease. The levels of antibodies will indicate the severity of the process. The good news is, that also means you have a high chance of reversing your symptoms, like I did!
How do you test?
You could start by talking to your GP. In some cases, especially if you back up your request with some serious research, it’s possible to get it done on NHS. In most cases, unfortunately, it’s not covered, and you will have to do get it done privately. Luckily, that’s super easy AND affordable!
Enter Functional Thyroid Testing
In my practice I offer a wide range of functional tests. They are super important when it comes to tailoring your protocol further and uncovering the unique root cause of your symptoms.
I am currently running an AUTUMN SPECIAL on comprehensive thyroid testing to make it more available and give you the chance to start on a tailored road to recovery within days.
For only £99.00 (comprehensive thyroid testing + key thyroid micronutrients) you can take the guesswork out of the equation and make informed food/lifestyle choices from now on.
This finger prick test comes with an initial mini-consultation as well as a written interpretation of the results, and you can do it in the comfort of your own home.
